Study on Aerodynamic Drag Reduction of a HeavyTruck Based on Aerodynamic Accessories

Abstract: For reducing the aerodynamic drag of heavy trucks to achieve the goal of energy saving and emission reduction, based on the sensitive regions in aerodynamic drag reduction, ten single aerodynamic drag reduction accessories for a cab-over-engine heavy truck is designed, with their drag reduction effects and mechanism studied by CFD simulation. The results show that 10 single accessories all have drag reduction effects, in which a bionics-based accessory has an obvious drag reduction effect with a drag reduction rate of 15.0% and a small installation space required. Finally, through the optimum combination of aerodynamic accessories, a best drag reduction scheme is obtained with a drag reduction rate reaching 27.4%
