Research on the Application of CFRP in Automobile Panels

Abstract: In this paper, carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) and epoxy resin matrix materials are used for topology optimization, sample manufacturing and performance analysis of the engine hood of an SUV hybrid car. According to the actual working condition of the engine hood, with the mass minimization as the objective function, with the performance index (torsional stiffness, anterior and posterior bending stiffness, lateral stiffness, first-order torsion and bending mode) measured by the steel engine hood tests as the constraint function, the equivalent alternative topology optimization of the CFRP engine hood is carried out. The test results for various working conditions show that the performance of CFRP engine hood compared to steel engine hood is improved by more than 10% and the weight is reduced by 45.56%.
